Built in 1849 for the Western and Atlantic Railroad with locally quarried sandstone blocks, the Ringgold Depot is one of the state’s oldest depots. It was used to ship wheat and other staples during the antebellum period and was the receiving point for sick and wounded soldiers during the War Between the States. It was also the last depot Andrews’ Raiders passed before their capture in the Great Locomotive Chase.

Damage from artillery fire inflicted during the Battle of Ringgold Gap is still evident, especially on the south side and along the roofline, where light-colored limestone was used to repair the damaged sandstone blocks. The depot recently underwent renovation and can be rented for events. The building is also on the National Register of Historic Places.
