Built in 1852, the Western and Atlantic Railroad Depot in Dalton was a Confederate ordinance depot from 1862 to 1864. During the Great Locomotive Chase, it was from here that Edward Henderson, Captain William A. Fuller’s 17-year-old telegraph operator, sent a wire to the Confederate commander of Chattanooga, Brigadier General Danville Ledbetter, reporting that the General had been stolen and was heading his way. The depot, no longer used by the railroad, currently houses a restaurant
