J. H. (Hank) Segars, a native of Eatonton, holds a lifelong interest in the American South and the War Between the States. He and his wife, Marie, a retired elementary school teacher, live in Madison and are active members of Madison Baptist Church.
Segars earned an A.B. degree from West Georgia College and an M.Ed. from the University of Georgia. He retired from the Georgia Department of Education in Atlanta as a Grants Administrator after 34 years of state service and six years as a Georgia Army National Guard member.
As an author and editor, Segars currently writes for Smith Communications Inc., and his features appear frequently in Lakelife magazine in the Lake Oconee area. Over the years, this commissioner has been involved in several civic, fraternal, and patriotic organizations, including Civil War Round Tables in Lawrenceville and Atlanta and SCV Camp 690 in Eatonton.
